Fall Book Sale by the Friends of the Malden Public Library!

The Big Fall Book Sale is here! The Friends of the Malden Public Library will have a huge book sale on Friday, October 17th, from 6-9pm. This is an early access preview sale for Friends members only. Join the Friends on Friday night or renew your membership to gain the best access to the book sale.

The Friends Fall Book Sale is open to everyone on Saturday, October 18th, from 10:00am to 2:00pm. We have thousands of books, DVDs, children’s books, cookbooks, and more! Cash, check or digital payments accepted. Stop by on Saturday for a delicious cup of coffee from Cornucopia Foods, and say hi to our book sale sponsors: The Malden Police Dept.

The Friends Book Sale helps raise money for Library programs, museum passes, technology, movie nights, teen programs, children’s programs, high demand bestsellers, and more. We look forward to seeing you there!

YA Craft: Fall Soap Making

Young Adults in the 5th through 12th grade are invited to the Malden Public Library on November 5th at 3:00 PM to take part in our next craft program: Fall Soap Making.

Teens will get to pick scents, colors and add ins to make a perfect candle for fall fun.  Sign Up is required and space is limited, so reserve your spot today:

Book Bunch, 3rd Thursday of month – book club for 2nd & 3rd graders

Beginning October 16, this book club for 2nd and 3rd graders will meet monthly on the third Thursday of the month at 4:00pm for 50 minutes. The program will include an informal book discussion, some snacks, and a book-related activity when appropriate. Sign up online, at the Children’s Room desk or by calling the Children’s Room at 781.388.0803. Regular attendance is expected. Pick up the book from the Children’s Room desk at least 2 weeks in advance and read it before the club meeting.

Preschool Storytime – Thursdays at 10:30 a.m.

Storytime for preschoolers (appropriate for ages 3-5) is offered weekly on a drop-in basis on Thursdays at 10:30 a.m. beginning September 19. Each hour-long program will feature several picture books, songs and rhymes, and a simple craft. No need to register! Just come to the Children’s Room on Thursday and arrive by 10:30 a.m.

(Unfortunately we are unable to accommodate preschool groups in the post-storytime craft activity, but groups are welcome to attend the picture book portion at the beginning of the program.)

Song & Rhyme Time: Tuesdays & alternating Saturdays

This early literacy program for young children (6 months to 4+ years) features songs, nursery rhymes, and a short picture book and takes place on Tuesday mornings and alternating Saturdays (Oct. 11, Oct. 25, etc.) from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m in the Children’s Room. No registration required. Just come on by!

140th Celebration for the Converse Memorial Building and the Malden Public Library 10.8.25

Come and celebrate the Malden Public Library’s 140th birthday on October 8 from 6-8pm! It will be a fun evening of music, history, reading, and food. From 6-7 will be a concert and talk titled “The Life and Music of Mary Parker Converse” in collaboration with Nightingale Vocal Ensemble. From 7:00-7:30 will be a “Read-A-Thon” where staff will read speeches and poetry from the 1885 dedication ceremony of the Converse Memorial Building. From 7:30-8:00 will be a reception for socializing, snacking, and enjoying the visual art on display at the library.

Robot Storytime by Museum of Science – Thursday, Oct. 9 – 3:30p & 4:15p

Can a robot be a friend? Can a robot help do your chores? Join us for Robot Storytime to explore these questions through an original story. Following the story, participants will meet a robot dog, get the chance to interact with it, and ask an educator their questions. Ideal for ages 4-10. Session times are 3:30 and 4:15.

Spooky Paint by Numbers Night 10.14.25

Ghosts, goblins, witches and ghouls…join Cait for a spooky night of color! This month we will be painting by numbers on haunted canvas. Each participant will select a pre-filled canvas with a spooky scene and follow the guide to fill in the colors. All supplies will be provided but space is limited. This is a craft night for older teens and adults. 16+

Movie Night: Wed., October 15th: 6:00-8:00pm

Please join us for Movie Night on Wednesday, October 15, 2025: 6:00-8:00pm at the Malden Public Library. We will be showing a film about an AI robot named M3GAN 2.0. The film stars Allison Williams, Amie Donald, and Violet McGraw.

“Two years after M3GAN’s rampage, her creator, Gemma, resorts to resurrecting her infamous creation in order to take down Amelia, the military-grade weapon who was built by a defense contractor who stole M3GAN’s underlying tech.” Rated PG-13 (121 min.) (2025)
