Thursday, May 31st 7PM Public Reading by the Malden Writers’ Collaborative

Join us for 8th Annual Public Reading by Malden’s own creative writing group, the Malden Writers’ Collaborative. The group meets twice a month at the library from October through May.

Members will share pieces they’ve workshopped this past year. Hear fiction and nonfiction focused on relationships, death, journeys, family, war, coming of age, and much more!

This event is free and open to the public. Light refreshments provided.

Thursday, June 14th 6-8PM Monet’s Magic: Learn Pastels with Gregory Maichack

Learn the art of pastels in this hands-on workshop with returning artist Gregory Maichack. The workshop is a two-hour event that enables sheer beginners to advanced adults, teens 18+, to experience creating a pastel painting while offering interesting and entertaining historical information about Monet’s life and painting techniques, a demo at easel, and participants’ own experience with pastels (all professional-grade materials supplied). All take home their own pastel paintings. This event is sponsored by the Malden Cultural Council and the Friends of the Malden Public Library.

Community Services Workshop with Cambridge Health Alliance, May 24th: 10:00-11:00am

Do you have questions about healthcare?  Join us at the Malden Public Library on Thursday, May 24, 2018 from 10:00-11:00am for a free community services workshop with Cambridge Health Alliance.  CHA Malden Care Center will discuss the variety of services they offer including primary care, acupuncture, diabetes management, family planning, mental health services, nutrition, substance abuse, bone and joint health, and elder services.

LEGO Robotics Club

Youth in the 4th through 6th grade are invited to attend the LEGO Robotics Club  being offered by the YMCA LEGO Robotics team.  There are three programs you may attend at the Malden Public Library, and they are on May 10th, May 17th and May 24th 2018 and will be from 4:00 to 5:00 in the Program Room located on the second floor. Each week will be a different theme and you are not required to attend all three programs to join up.

There is no need to sign-up, but it is first come first serve basis, and program participants are not required to bring anything but an interest in Robotics.

Firefighter Story Time

Visit the library on Thursday, May 17th at 10:30 a.m. for a Firefighter Story Time.  Meet Firefighter Rick Menard, listen to a story, and learn about fire safety and what firefighters do.  Guest reader Ted Louis-Jacques of Malden Rising Leaders will also be sharing a book.  Ages 3 and up.

Movie Night: Wed., May 23rd, 2018: 6:00-8:30pm

Join us for Family Movie Night on Wednesday, May 23, 2018, from 6:00-8:30pm. We will be showing a recent movie based on the Marvel Comics character, Black Panther. This Ryan Coogler directed film stars Chadwick Boseman, Michael B. Jordan, Lupita Nyong’o, Daniel Kaluuya, Sterling K. Brown, Angela Bassett, and Forest Whitaker.
