(Canceled) N@ML Exploration Club – Thurs. July 14th 3:00-4:30

Youth in the 3rd Grade and Up are invited to join us on Thursday, July 14th from 3:00-4:30 PM in the Program Room of the library.

We will be exploring the ins and out of using telescopes to explore space features like stars and the surface of the moon. We will also be examining the first images send back from the James Webb Space Telescope of the deepest images of the universe ever seen by human eyes!

No Sign-Up is required but space is limited so arrive on time to take part in the latest NASA @ My Library program at the MPL.

Toe Jam Puppet Band – Wednesday, July 20, 6:30 pm

Families, bring your dancing shoes and prepare for lots of fun! The Toe Jam Puppet Band offers a special brand of hands-on children’s entertainment that grown-ups can actually enjoy. The performances are very active, encouraging kids and parents to sing and dance along with the band as they entertain with a unique combination of original songs, masterful shadow puppetry, storytelling and just plain old good fun! This concert is presented in collaboration with the North Suburban Child & Family Resource Network.
This program is supported by a grant from the Malden Cultural Council, a local agency supported by the Mass Cultural Council, a state agency.

Nile & The Whalemobile – Friday, July 15, 2-4pm

Nile, the inflatable43-foot whale, is returning to Malden on Friday, July 15, at 2 p.m! Kids in grades K-5 will be able to go inside Nile—the life-sized humpback whale, learn about how whales and humans are similar and different, and have a chance to touch baleen, teeth and bones. This special whale education program is presented by Cynde McInnis, who has loved whales and been learning about them since she was eight.

This program is generously funded by Preotle, Lane & Associates.

“How to Bake a Universe” with author Alec Carvlin – Tuesday, July 12, 3pm

On Tuesday, July 12, at 3 p.m., kids can meet author Alec Carvlin, decorate their own cosmic sunglasses, hear him read his fun new picture book, and ask questions about the book and the science behind it. Recommended for children ages 5-8.

Young Adult Perler Beads Take&Make Kits

Young Adults in the 5th grade and up are invited to the library today to pick up a take home craft bag with everything you need to start a Perler Bead hobby.

Each craft bag comes with a peg board, beads, tweezers, paper and instructions, and just require access to an iron.

No sign-up is required but there are a limited number of kits so come into the library starting today to pick up yours.

Sign Up for the Summer Reading Challenge 2022!

Adults and Young Adults (Grades 5-12) can sign up today and start logging hours read in our online tracking system!

We are tracking all readers logged hours this Summer as a whole community, so every hour that you read and track online will count towards our total!

 

 

YOUNG ADULT SUMMER READING (Grades 5-12)

Every week that you read for at least 5 or more hours (300 minutes or more) you will get to pull a prize from the prize pool behind the information desk at the library. The prizes range from free Books and Comics, to Water Bottles, Crafts, Toys and other things that will be worth coming back each week to win up to 6 weeks in a row starting Tuesday July 5th.

YOUNG ADULT TOP READERS

The top three readers over the entire 6 weeks of the Summer Reading Program (June 27th – August 8) for Young Adults will also receive a gift card for reading and logging their hours.

ADULT SUMMER READING
In addition to logging in your reading hours as you complete activities and attend programs you can accrue stickers. Once you have earned enough of the camp themed stickers return to earn your Adult Summer Reading merit badge at the Circulation Desk of the Malden Public Library.

Library Closed Monday, July 4

The Malden Public Library will be closed on Monday, July 4, 2022 in celebration of American Independence.

We will reopen on Tuesday, July 5 at 9 a.m.

Join us for the latest movie based on the TV series, “Downton Abbey.” Rated PG (125 min.) (2022)

Children’s Summer Reading Club – July 4 to August 14

Register your child now for the Summer Reading Club, either on paper in the Children’s Room or online using Beanstack. Children ages 3 to those entering 5th grade in the fall are eligible.

For six weeks, beginning Monday, July 4, registered children can log their reading times (on paper or online) to reach the weekly goal of 120 minutes or more by the end of the week on Sunday. Kids can read any book anywhere, and being read aloud to counts, especially for pre-readers. Readers who reach the weekly goal can come to the Children’s Room the following week (or anytime thereafter) to choose a prize.
