14th Annual Malden Parade of Holiday Traditions & Christmas Tree Lighting

The City of Malden will kick off the Holiday Season with the 14th Annual Parade of Holiday Traditions on Saturday, November 25th at 2 PM. The Parade will lift off at the Salemwood School on Waite Street Extension, will bear left onto Maplewood Street, and will then travel west on Salem Street. The Parade will conclude at the Malden Teen Enrichment Center (MTEC) at Ferry, Salem and Main Streets where residents will be invited in for hot chocolate. Santa Claus will be making a special visit – all children should bring their letters to Santa so that his helpers from the Post Office can collect and send them to the North Pole!

At the conclusion of the Parade, everyone is invited the City Christmas Tree Lighting on the lawn of the Malden Public Library.

Library Closed at 6 pm Wednesday and All Day Thanksgiving

The Malden Public Library will close at 6 pm on Wednesday, Nov.22nd be closed all day, Thursday, Nov. 23rd for the Thanksgiving holiday. We will reopen at 9 am on Friday, Nov. 24th.

Young Adult Anime Afternoon

Young Adults in the 6th through 12th grade are invited to join us on Thursday November 16th in the Macarrio Room from 3:00 – 5:00 PM to watch one of the best-selling Anime films of all time.

Mitsuha and Taki are high school students in Japan, one lives in the country side and the other in metropolis Tokyo. When they wake up in one another’s bodies they begin to try and find one another, and uncover the mystery of an odd comet passing overhead.

This program is brought to you by the Friends of the Malden Public Library. Snacks and drinks will be provided.

“No Mutiny This Time: ” The Sinking of the Tall Ship Bounty. Film and Discussion with Filmmaker Neil Novello.

Tuesday, November 14th at 6:30 p.m. Malden Public Library

“No Mutiny This Time” is the title of filmmaker Neil D. Novello’s thought-provoking talk & video presentation about the circumstances leading to the sinking of the tall ship, Bounty during Hurricane Sandy on October 29, 2012

 “Bounty & Her Captain” the video portion of his presentation is “NOT a documentary but a “video essay”, like a print essay,” his personal perspective that is, “Part Testimonial”, with exclusive interviews with Captain Walbridge &“Part Shipbuilding showing work done at Boothbay Harbor Maine shipyard” and “Part Hollywood Ballyhoo” because Bounty was built exclusively for the 1962 remake of the Hollywood classic, Mutiny on the Bounty.”

TONIGHT: Classic Movie Night: Wed., Nov. 15th: 6:00-8:30pm

Join us for a special event Classic Movie Night on Wednesday, November 15, 2017 from 6:00-8:30pm. We will be showing the 1935 classic film, “Mutiny on the Bounty” with Clark Gable.

“Based on the true story of sadistic Captain Bligh, Fletcher Christian, their turbulent journey aboard the HMS Bounty, and the subsequent mutiny in 1788.”

Rotten Tomatoes gives the film a 94% rating. The New York Times writes, “It is superlatively thrilling.”
