Malden Office of Housing Stability

The Malden Office of Housing Stability will be at the Malden Public Library one Wednesday a month from10 am to 12 pm for a free legal clinic to discuss housing concerns, eviction, financial assistance, affordable housing, etc. with an attorney. The upcoming dates are as follows: November 22nd, December 27th, January 24th, and February 28th.

Brother Artists: Olmsted and Richardson in Malden

This Saturday, November 4th at 1:00 pm join us for a lecture about the famous collaborators responsible for our beautiful building. Tanja Giles, Park Ranger at the Frederick Law Olmsted National Historic Site, will discuss the collaborations of landscape architect Frederick Law Olmsted and architect Henry Hobson Richardson, who a mutual friend referred to as ‘brother-artists.” The Converse Memorial Building / Malden Public Library was constructed between 1883 and 1885 and was the last Richardson-Olmsted library project. This past year the Library was able to restore the historic gardens designed Olmsted.  This is a fabulous program for those who love gardens, historic architecture, or for anyone who wants to know more about the library building and how it came to be.

The ABC’s of Family Research with Dave Robison 11/6 @ 6:30 pm

Join Ryan in Local History on Monday, November 6th at 6:30 pm for a program with guest lecturer and Profesional Genealogist Dave Robison. This program, “The ABC’s of Family Research”, will explore the basics of family research. This is a great program for anyone looking to better understand genealogical research or for anyone looking for pointers as they continue their search for information.

Night of the Living Dead 10.31.23 @7 pm

We’re coming to get you…Malden. Join us on the front lawn on Tuesday 10.31.23 (Halloween) at 6:30 pm to see the restored Zombie classic: “Night of the Living Dead”. We have a blow up screen, a bowl of candy, and a prize for your best costume. Bring a blanket and a chair and settle in for the unsettling. We’ll start early enough for you still have time to haunt the downtown in all your ghoulish glory.

Local History Talk on Grave Stone Restoration and Preservation

On Monday October 2nd at 6:30 pm the Malden Public Library will welcome Epoch Preservation, Inc to give a presentation on the important work they do repairing gravestones in some of Massachusetts’s oldest historic burial grounds. This program is a great way to learn about historic cemeteries, restoration and preservation efforts, and a neat way to kick off spooky season with some interesting historical knowledge. All are welcome!

Wine Tasting to Benefit the Friends of the MPL

Join us on Tuesday, September 19 from 6–8 pm at The Malden Center Fine Wines for a wine tasting fundraiser to benefit the Friends of the Malden Public Library.

You can try different wines, enjoy a charcuterie board, get 10% off each purchase, and have a fun evening with friends (bring some along or meet new ). The Friends of MPL will also have an assortment of books about wine and related topics on sale at our book sale prices.
