One of the challenges of social distancing is keeping up with routine movements and activities that keep your body strong and mobile. To aid with this, Boston Public Library has partnered with Hands to Heart Yoga to offer online bi weekly yoga classes. Whether you are at home or taking a break from your stressful routine, these yoga classes will help to move and center you.

The classes are accessible to beginners and are inclusive. Hands to the Heart Yoga describes their Yoga For All Program as sharing: “the healing practice of yoga with Greater Boston’s low-income and under-resourced communities. HTHC yoga classes are designed to be culturally affirming, accessible, inclusive and inspiring — yoga classes in which anyone and everyone can participate.”

The Malden Public Library will be canceling or postponing all programs, events and all outside use of meeting rooms until April 9th.  The Library remains open for all other services at this time.  If you have any questions or concerns, please contact Dora St. Martin, Library Director, at 781-324-0218.

The Library will be temporarily waiving Overdue fines for our library patrons until May 1st. This measure is being taken to eliminate feelings of pressure among our patrons to come out to return materials even if they are not feeling well.

Join us on Wednesday, March 11, 2020 at 6:00-8:30pm at the Malden Public Library’s Malden Reads first film screening for the 2020 book selection, Fahrenheit 451, by Ray Bradbury.  We will be showing a movie about a librarian, played by Bette Davis, who is in the middle of a Storm Center.

In this 1956 movie, “Bette Davis plays a small town librarian who inspires the joy of reading in children and stands up against book banning during the 1950’s when anti-communism sentiment is causing panic. Her refusal to pull a book about communism from the library costs her her job and reputation and eventually triggers a fire in the library. Davis’s character is based on the story of librarian Ruth W. Brown, who was accused of being a communist because of her anti-segregation efforts.”

A discussion of this year’s Malden Reads book selection, Fahrenheit 451, will follow the movie. This year Fahrenheit 451 is part of the NEA’s Big Read.  Movie times are approximate.  This film is free and open to the public and is accessible.  Rated PG (85 min.)

Dominique likes the little things of life, the spectacle of nature, the lines and shapes of the world. He uses them to create images, to map voyages, to share impressions. He wants his work to be colorful, warm, and a bit mysterious. It should make you smile, travel, wonder, so you’ll want to take it home with you.
