13 Ghosts: Library Ghost Scavenger Hunt

The library is HAUNTED!!! 13 ghosts have moved into the stacks. Help the library catch and catalog these ghostly visitors by following the clues to each individual ghost and logging them on our Ghost Containment sheet. Once you’ve found all 13 ghosts bring the sheet to the Circulation desk and get a prize.

This program is best enjoyed with a cell phone QR code scanner, but there are printed clues with each ghost so don’t let technology get in the way of a ghostly good time!These ghosts are only here until the candy runs out, so come by for a little scavenger hunt fun!

The Joy of Fine Art Prints

Elizabeth Rudy, curator at the Harvard Art Museums, will present “The Inexhaustible Joy of Prints,” a discussion of her daily work of teaching and talking about fine art prints.  This one hour, virtual talk will be held on Wednesday, October 20 at 6:30 p.m.

Elizabeth Rudy is the Carl A. Weyerhaeuser Curator of Prints at the Harvard Art Museums. She is responsible for the objects in the museums’ print collection, which spans the Renaissance to the contemporary era. Her research focuses on prints of the 18th and 19th centuries, with particular interests in etching, book illustration, and works by the artist Pierre-Paul Prud’hon.

The series is part of the Malden Public Library’s current exhibition “The Fine Art of Prints and Printmaking,” now on display in the Converse Memorial Building’s Giso-Nutall Gallery. The program is supported in part by a grant from the Malden Cultural Council, a local agency which is supported by the Mass Cultural Council, a state agency.

Movie Night in the Park at Rivers Edge: Fri., Oct. 8th: 7:00pm

The Malden Public Library and Preotle, Lane & Associates present “Movie Night in the Park at River’s Edge” on Friday, October 8th at 7:00 p.m.

The movie will be on The Park at River’s Edge Great Lawn adjacent to 200 River’s Edge Drive in Medford. The Great Lawn section of the park will be transformed into an outdoor movie theatre where residents and visitors of all ages are welcome to gather and enjoy a free movie night featuring “Hotel Transylvania.”

The movie tells the story of Count Dracula, he’s the owner of the hotel called Hotel Transylvania where the world’s monsters can take a rest from humans. Dracula invites some of the most famous monsters to celebrate the 118th birthday of his beloved daughter Mavis. When the “human free hotel” is unexpectedly visited by an ordinary 21-year-old traveler named Jonathan, Dracula must do everything in his power to prevent Mavis from falling in love with him before the hotel’s guests learn a human is in the castle. The film is rated PG.

Attendees should bring their own blankets or chairs for use, drinks and snacks will be served.

International Story Time For Children

It’s Welcoming Week! Join us for International Storytime on the front lawn/portico area of the Library on Thursday, September 16th: 3:30-4:30 pm.
Stories for ages 5-7 years will be read in Arabic, Hindi, Chinese, Haitian-Creole, and Brazilian-Portuguese. Free book for kids while supplies last. & pick up a fun Grab & Go craft!
Masks are required for this event.

The Fine Art of Printmaking : A Talk with Artist Liz Shepherd

Join us on Wednesday, September 22, at 6:30 for a talk with artist and printmaker Liz Shepherd. Liz Shepherd has been exploring the possibilities of contemporary printmaking for the past 15 years, moving beyond two-dimensional traditional etchings, woodcuts, and monoprints, to sculptural forms. She has produced large scale installations, filling a 60-foot gallery with silkscreen prints on fabric for example, hanging cast papier mâché chairs made from silk screened handmade Japanese paper, and hand printed corrugated cardboard furniture. Shepherd will show examples of this work and explain how it is made.

Join Malden’s own creative writing group, The Malden Writers’ Collaborative, to meet and exchange feedback with other writers. New members must attend the Information Session on Thursday, September 30th at 7PM. Email Chris Hickey at maldenwriters@gmail.com to receive the Zoom link.
The group meets the first and third Thursday of the month online, October-May, and culminates in an optional Public Reading. This group is for adults 18+.
