Malden Reads Kick-off Celebration

Malden Reads will kick-off it’s 2016 community reads event on Friday, February 19th at 6:30 pm at the Malden Public Library.

Enjoy refreshments, cultural exhibits, and community conversation. Learn more about this year’s book selections, take a guided tour of the Library’s historic building, and participate in a special presentation in the Ryder Gallery.

And please enjoy MATV’s PSA for the 2016 selection The Martian.

 

Origami—February 10th

The Malden Public Library is pleased to be holding another Origami session on Wednesday, February 10th from 6:30–8:30 in our Maccario Room with James Hollis. We will start with some easy hearts (Valentine’s Day is just around the corner) and then go on to Pegasus. Seating is limited (adults only please), so call 781.324.0218 to reserve your space.

Triple Threat Trivia 18!

Calling all trivia fans! Join the Malden Public Library for its 18th Annual Triple Threat Trivia fundraiser on Thursday, January 28, 2016 at Anthony’s of Malden. The buffet begins at 5:30 p.m. and trivia questions begin at 6:45p.m. Tables of ten may be purchased for $360 and include dinner, three rounds of trivia, a novelty game, and more!

Can’t make up a team of 10 on your own? New to Malden….? Join our “Meet Malden” table at $36 per person. The first 8-10 people to sign up make a team.

Each box of note cards comes with an assortment of 12 cards (and envelopes) featuring favorite art works from the Converse Art Galleries. Remember, your purchase helps to support the educational programs and collections of the Malden Public Library.

 

Uniforms: Dressing the Part EXTENDED

The Malden Historical Society has announced that it will extend the exhibition “Uniforms: Dressing the Part” at the Malden Public Library’s Converse Building  on a limited basis. The exhibit, scheduled to close before Christmas, will be open on Wednesdays 2:00 -4:00 pm starting in January. Groups wishing a different time or individualized showing should contact the Society at 781-338-9365.

On exhibit are a variety of uniforms including a Civil War coat, the WW I uniform of Mayor John Devir, Vietnam era uniforms of  Navy ace “Buzzie” Burnett and a WWI Navy uniform. Other “uniforms” include Malden High and Malden Catholic High outfits; girl scout leader, suffragette, and nursing outfits, as well as others not usually classified as uniforms.

 

BOOK SALE—This weekend

Please join us for our annual Friends of the MPL Book Sale on Friday, October 23rd through Sunday, October 25th. Our hours are:

  • Friday, 6-9 pm (preview sale for Friends of the Library)
  • Saturday, 10-4 pm
  • Sunday, 12-3 pm

It’s easy to join the Friends if you’d like to get first selection of available books. Regular membership is $10, students and seniors are $5, and families (includes 2 children under 18) are $15. You can join the night of the book sale with cash or check.

Saturday will include a bake sale, because nothing goes better with a good book than a tasty baked good.
