Wednesday November 1, 7-8:30PM National Novel Writing Month
Write-In & Kickoff

Ever wanted to write a novel but you just needed motivation? Here’s your chance! November is National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo), a fun, seat-of-your-pants approach to creative writing for anyone who has ever thought about writing a novel. We’re throwing a write-in and kick off party to discuss the basics and begin working towards the 50,000 word goal!

Bring your trusty notebook or a dependable laptop and write amongst other NaNoWriMo hopefuls.

Afterwards, socialize with fellow writers over refreshments generously provided by The Malden Writers’ Collaborative.

Annual Holiday Food Drive

Bring a little cheer to a struggling family.  Library patrons can contribute to the Salvation Army’s work in Malden to make the holiday season festive for others.  Lend a hand in creating a memorable Thanksgiving for those who might otherwise not be able to celebrate.

These items will be gladly accepted:

  •            stuffing
  •            dry gravy
  •            mashed potatoes
  •            canned tuna, chicken or other canned goods
  •            apple sauce
  •            cranberry sauce
  •            peanut butter

Ethnic foods are welcomed; staples, such as rice or beans, are always good additions to the pantry.

The collection container will be out on the main floor opposite the circulation desk.  The food drive will continue after Thanksgiving to accept donations for Christmas.

BOOK SALE—TODAY!!!

The Friends of the Malden Public Library is holding their annual Book Sale on Friday, October 27th from 6–9 pm (Friends members only night) and Saturday, October 28th from 10 am—4 pm (open to the general public). We have a LARGE collection of fiction, non-fiction, world language books, children’s and teen titles, and lots of undiscovered gems.

The Friends of the Malden Public Library is a non-profit group dedicated to raising money to fund programs and buy items for the Malden Public Library. Through the book sale and other fund-raising activities, the Friends purchase the museum passes, fund our wifi, buy computers, and a list of other things too numerous to list. It is easy to join the Friends—stop by the library and ask for a form. Or come to the book sale on Friday, October 27th and join at the door.

Thursday, October 5th 7-8:30PM 2017-2018 Season Information Session

Are you a local writer?
Are you interested in joining a collaborative community of committed writers?
Are you looking for people to workshop your writing and are you committed to doing the same for others?
Are you open-minded, respectful, and encouraging to fellow writers and to the writing process?

The Malden Writers’ Collaborative will host their Informational Session on Thursday, October 5th. Here we will go over group expectations, group etiquette, hear first-hand experiences from previous season members, and answer any questions.

At the end of this session interested parties will sign up for the 2017-2018 season. You must attend the Informational Session in order to sign up — the group will then be closed to additional members until the 2018-2019 season. The group meets the first and third Thursday evenings at 7pm, October-May.

Contact the Facilitator, Evangeline Vickery, by email at tmwc@evangelinevickery.com or call the library at 781-324-0218 with any questions.
