Since its inaugural year in 2012, #GivingTuesday has become a movement that celebrates and supports giving and philanthropy with events throughout the year and a growing catalog of resources.
Join us for Movie Night on Wednesday, December 12, 2018, from 6:00-8:00pm. We will be showing a recent blockbuster based on the book, Crazy Rich Asians, by Kevin Kwan. The film stars Constance Wu, Henry Golding, Awkwafina, Ken Jeong, and Michelle Yeoh.
“A native New Yorker Rachel Chu accompanies her longtime boyfriend, Nick Young, to his best friend’s wedding in Singapore. Excited about visiting Asia for the first time but nervous about meeting Nick’s family, Rachel is unprepared to learn that Nick has neglected to mention a few key details about his life. It turns out that he is not only the scion of one of the country’s wealthiest families but also one of its most sought-after bachelors.”
TIME Magazine writes, “It’s simply great fun, a winsome romantic comedy and an occasionally over-the-top luxury fantasy that never flags.” Richard Roeper writes, “Crazy Rich Asians…is pure escapist fantasy fun.” Rotten Tomatoes gives the film a 92% approval rating.
This film is free and open to the public and is accessible. Movie times are approximate. Please call the Malden Public Library at 781-324-0218 for more information. Rated PG-13 (120 min.)
Blandin’s paintings and drawings are an exploration of the human condition and the search for spirituality through realistic portrayal. His work will be on display at the Library through the month of November.
Join us for a Sing-Along Movie Night on Wednesday, November 14, 2018, from 6:00-8:15pm. We will be showing a recent musical based on the music of ABBA, where the movie cast sings, “Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again.” The film stars Amanda Seyfried, Andy Garcia, Pierce Brosnan, Colin Firth, Meryl Streep, and Cher.
“Five years after the events of Mamma Mia! (2008), Sophie (Seyfried) prepares for the grand reopening of the Hotel Bella Donna as she learns more about her mother’s past.”
The Boston Globe writes, “I wish I could tell you that “Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again” is ridiculous and I hated it, but the fact is that it’s ridiculous and I loved every minute.” The Chicago Reader writes, “this exuberant sequel easily tops the 2008 musical hit.” The movie has an 81% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Join us for some escapist chick-flick fun. Singers welcome!
