Throughout the month of April, the library will be showcasing the works by Malden artist and resident Peg Kane. Her works utilize graphite, colored pencil, acrylics, mixed media and clay and she has always been drawn to nature; flowers, plants, trees and gardens. An artist reception will be held on Thursday April 11th from 6-7pm. Everyone is welcome to attend.
Young Adults in the 5th through 12th grade are invited to the Malden Library this week to game and relax with friends in the Maccario Room.
Join us for games, pizza and snacks on Thursday, March 28th from 3:00-4:30 PM and play with our collection of board and video games.
Join us on Wednesday, March 27th from 6:30–7:30 pm for a book discussion with Malden Mayor Gary Christenson of this year’s Malden Reads selection Being Heumann by Judith Heumann. We will meet in the Ryder Gallery of the Converse Art Galleries and light refreshments will be offered. A Zoom link will be provided closer to the date, for those that would like to attend from home.
Join Malden Reads: One City, One Book as we explore themes related to Being Heumann for our 14th year, including disability awareness; hidden disabilities; the benefit of ADA to non-disabled people; advances in technology for people with disabilities; civil rights, human rights, and how bills like the ADA become law; the power of one person working in collaboration with a team to create change.

Please join us for the Malden Reads Film Screening about The Peanut Butter Falcon. We will be showing this film at the Malden Public Library on Wednesday, March 13, 2024: 6:00-8:15pm. We will also be showing a 15-minute preview of the excellent disabilities rights documentary, Lives Worth Living.
These films are part of Malden Reads’ 2024 season of events for the book, Being Heumann: An Unrepentant Memoir Of A Disability Rights Activist, by Judith Heumann.
The Peanut Butter Falcon: “After running away from a residential nursing home to pursue his dream of becoming a pro wrestler, a man who has Down syndrome befriends an outlaw who becomes his coach and ally.” The film is Rated PG-13 (97 min.) (2019) 95% on Rotten Tomatoes.

Our monthly online poetry discussion group led by local poet Lloyd Schwartz. Lloyd chooses a poem for the group to read and then leads an often lively discussion. Waking in the Blue by Robert Lowell is the poem for our March discussion.

The House in the Pines by Ana Reyes is our book for March. To register March Book Group Discussion

Malden’s inaugural poet laureate CD Collins will host an evening of poetry and will read from her newly released poetry book. She’ll also be joined by Christopher Hickey, Anna Geoffroy, Jeff Taylor, Daniel Daschino, Karen Krola, Cathleen Chambless and Robert Hayes. The program starts at 7pm and everyone is welcome.
Sarah Morrison is the featured artist for the month of March. She is an award is an award-winning fantasy illustrator and portrait artist. Working primarily with oil paint she focuses on figurative works designed to inspire narrative, with attention towards faces and fabric. Escapism through fantasy has always been a central theme to her art, and she embraces whimsy and enigmatic details. Sarah’s imagery is designed to inspire a sense of wonder, encouraging viewers to develop stories about what might be going on in each piece. Sarah also occasionally works with printmaking techniques and textiles.
