Summer Fun – Jewelry Making — Bracelet

Monday, July 27th from 6-8:30 pm.

Learn to make your own elegant bracelet with Cathy Bartlett, a member of our children’s room staff. Through this fun class, Cathy will guide you through the whole process from start to finish of how to make simple but beautiful pieces of jewelry that you can wear with pride.

Summer fun – Hair Braiding

Tuesday, August 4th, 6 – 8:30 pm

If you are looking for a fun night out, come join licensed hair stylist Brittany Judkins for a hair braiding class.  Brittany will teach different styles of braids and show tips on how you can improve your techniques.

Just bring a partner.  Elastics, ribbons, bows, and all supplies are provided by the Malden Public Library free of charge.

Teen Summer Movie

Young Adults in the 6th grade and up are welcome to join us on Thursday, July 2nd from 3:00 to 5:00 PM in the Maccario Room to watch a film based on a Marvel Comic Book called “Big Hero Six“.  The story involves protagonist Hiro and his behemoth friend Baymax as they team up to stop villains and rogues in Japan, alongside his super-powered friends. The animated feature film has won many awards, including an Oscar for best animated feature.

Snacks and refreshments will be provided. Door prizes include Marvel comics provided by “New England Comics” here in Malden, with funding from Preotle, Lane & Associates LTD.

Young Adult Summer Reading Kick-Off Party

We will have crafts, board games, video games (including our new wii U), snacks and refreshments.

Summer Fun—Crochet

Join us on Tuesday, July 7th from 6-8:30 pm. and create pair of baby booties! Fiber artist Terese Brennan will assist you in creating a pair of baby booties that we will donate to a local hospital. All are welcome, whether you’ve been crocheting for years or never picked up a hook.

Malden Public Library is happy to provide all supplies free of charge. You may bring your own hook if you prefer. We will use size 4 mm (US G/6).

By the end of the night you will go home with the pattern for the booties as well as the start of a new passion!

Board Game Night for Adults

Please join us Wednesday, July 1st in the Program Room from 6:30-8:30 PM for Board Game Night for Adults. Bring your own board games, or play with the library’s collection that includes: Settlers of Catan, Ticket To Ride, Dominion, Can’t Stop, Forbidden Island and more! Snacks and Refreshments will be served.

Summer Reading Kickoff Ice Cream Social

Ice cream and summer reading isn’t just for kids anymore. Join us on Thursday, June 25 from 1-2:30 p.m. for our Summer Reading Kickoff Ice Cream Social. We will be scooping free ice cream, generously donated by Dairy Delight, on the Library’s front garden at 36 Salem St. and look forward to seeing you there!

Malden Historical Society Book Release

The Malden Historical Society is hosting a book release reception on Tuesday, June 23 at 7 p.m. in the Ryder Gallery of the Malden Public Library. The book is the second of a series on Malden history, compiled by Society Board members Ed Flaherty, Frank Russell, Barbara Tolstrup, and John Tramondozzi. It was published by Arcadia Publishing. The first Arcadia book was a photograph history of Malden, published in 2000 and has had several reprinting. The new book is a collection of old postcards selected from the personal collections of members. Both titles will be on sale at the library on June 23 and after the program.

Malden YMCA Robotic Club for Teens

The Malden YMCA Robotics Club is coming to the Malden Public Library for the next three Thursdays, May 28th, June 4th and June 11th from 3:30–5 pm in the Maccario Room. Teens in the 5th grade and up can reserve their spot today for this three week, in-depth robotics course where they’ll learn how to design, build and program robots. Art Detective: How to Find a Forgery

Tuesday, June 9th from 3-4:30 pm.

Learn the techniques used to distinguish real paintings from counterfeit using the tools of science. We will look at “real” and “forged” paintings and use the tools of science to find the truth.

This program is limited to 30 individuals, in grades 9-12.
