New Young Adult Books

Take a look at some of the books that we recently added to the Young Adult collection. We’ve added over a hundred new books in the last month, so there are plenty to choose from. If you need help finding them ask a Librarian and we can help you get a copy for yourself.

Important Malden trivia here: William Moulton Marston, the creator of Wonder Woman went to Malden High School, he might have dreamed up the idea for her while reading a book in our library.

In this companion book to the author’s bestselling book “Every Day” we get to read the story from the point of view of Rhiannon. This book is for fans of the author’s previous work and who were left wanting more from the award-winning story about identity, relationships, and love.

Discover an alternate version of New York in 1888 where the British still rule the ‘colonies’ with the might of magic. Join Deadpool in his new series of adventures as he teams up with Thor, Dr. Strange and S.H.I.E.L.D. to take down giant rampaging monsters, an evil elephant and resurrected U.S. Presidents.  Veteran comedian Brian Posehn takes us through the dark, twisted and hilarious world that surrounds the ‘Merc with a Mouth’ in the start of a string of new “Marvel Now!” adventures.

Origami Workshop for Adults

Please join us on Wednesday, August 26, from 6:30-8:30, for an origami workshop at the Malden Public Library! Origami enthusiast James Hollis will be teaching techniques to complete the iconic duck. Materials and instruction are free and will be provided, thanks to the funding of the Friends of the Malden Public Library. Space is limited to 15 people and advance registration is required, so please sign up early by calling the library at 781-324-0218 or visiting us at 36 Salem Street.

Mango’s Little Pim: Language Lessons for Kids

Mango’s Little Pim is a fun, interactive language system for young learners! Little Pim includes animated videos and other tools to make learning a language simpler for kids. Mango Languages’ PhD-created and linguist-approved software teaches real conversations in more than 60 languages. This site offers training in the following languages:

English

German

Hebrew

Italian

Japanese

Russian

Spanish

Converse LEGO Club 2015 Photos

 

Take a look at the many creations put together by the Converse LEGO club members so far this year. We have created everything from Pixel to planes, race cars to tiny Libraries.  The Converse LEGO Club will return this Fall, so keep your eyes open on the Teen page for more announcements of when and where.

Live on the Lawn featuring Hungrytown

Join us on Wednesday, August 19th @ 7 pm on our front lawn for our final 2015 Live on the Lawn Concert Series featuring Hungrytown.

After more than a decade of world-wide touring and three album releases, Rebecca Hall and Ken Anderson–otherwise known as the folk duo Hungrytown–have earned a reputation for the quality and authenticity of their songwriting.

They released their first CD, Hungrytown, in 2008; Any Forgotten Thing in 2011; and Further West in 2015. The couple continue to spend more than half of each year on the road, especially roads in North America, Europe and New Zealand.  Hungrytown’s music has received extensive radio airplay worldwide and has appeared on several television shows, including the Independent Film Channel’s hit series, Portlandia.

Board Game Night for Adults – Jan. 13th

PCatan-Basico-Nuevolease join us Wednesday, January 13th in the Program Room from 6:30-8:30 PM for Board Game Night for Adults.

Bring your own board games, or play with the library’s collection that includes: Settlers of Catan, Ticket To Ride, Dominion, Can’t Stop, Forbidden Island and more! Snacks and Refreshments will be served.

Young Adult End of Summer Wrap-Up

comic-bamThanks to all the Teens that took part in the Summer Reading program and came out to our End of the Summer Party. We had over 60 teens sign up, and all told you collectively read over 2000 hours! Our winners combined read over 500 hours together alone.

YA Summer Reading Programs 2015

From the Malden Public Library have a great rest of the Summer. We will continue to offer programs and events geared specifically towards teens in the coming months, so keep and eye out for our online postings and flyers in the Young Adult Room.

Hair Braiding

Join licensed hair stylist Brittany Judkins on Tuesday, August 4 from 6–8:30 pm for a hair braiding class. Brittany will teach different braiding options and show tips on how you can improve your technique.

Just bring a friend. All other supplies are supplied by the Library free of charge.
