The Malden Public Library will be closed today, Monday, June 5th, because the library has no water at the moment. We hope to be opening at 1 pm.
The Malden Public Library welcomes Terry E. Carter, the Poet Laureate of Medford for an engaging opportunity to learn about “ekphrastic” poetry, which seeks to interpret a piece of visual art poetically. This month our Rotating Artists are students from the Malden Public High School and their artwork will be the subject of Terry’s program. This will be a fun and engaging program for all ages.

This Chinese storytelling program takes place on the 1st and 3rd Wednesday of each month, 10:00-10:45 a.m., and offers an opportunity for our little readers to experience Chinese culture and develop early Chinese literacy skills in a fun way by singing catchy songs and hearing simple stories.

Join Mayor Gary Christenson for a special storytime on Thursday, May 11, at 10:30 a.m. The Mayor will read aloud from some fun new picture books and be available to answer any questions that children might have about what a mayor does. This program is recommended for ages 3-5+. Preschool groups are welcome (just call the Children’s Room in advance).
Children are invited to join us on Tuesday, April 18, at noon and meet local children’s book author, Christine Ricci-McNamee. She will be reading from her two picture books, Logan and the Lost Luggage and Louella and the Librarian. Afterwards, she will be available to talk with children about the process of writing a book, sign books, and answer any questions. Her books will be available for purchase. Most appropriate for ages 5-7
Young Adults in the 6th through 12th grade are invited to get crafty at the MPL on Thursday, March 9th from 3:00 – 4:30 PM in the Program Room.
Perler Beads are small pixel-like beads that you can use to create art that can be turned into keychains, magnets, doodads and more. Create something with your imagination or use a printed guide. No sign-up is required but space and time is limited.
The Malden Public Library has just joined the Massachusetts Library Collaborative 50+ Job Seekers Networking Group. The Job Seekers Networking Group supports people fifty years and older looking for a new job, a new career direction, re-entering the workforce after an employment gap, or looking for a “Second Act” career. There will be biweekly skill-building and networking group meetings with a new topic at each meeting. Attendance at each session is not necessary – but highly recommended.
