YA Backyard Crafts: Bee Homes! Wednesday July 20th @ 3PM

Young Adults in the 5th grade and up are invited to the library to learn all about our friendly backyard neighbors and potent pollinators the BEES!

Join us this Wednesday July 20th at 3PM on the Front Portico outside of the library to paint bee houses and learn how to attract bees to your backyard. Sign-up is limited so call the library starting tomorrow to reserve your space at 781-321-0218 or stop by the Information Desk.

YA Backyard Arts & Crafts: Soy Candles

Youth in the 6th grade and up are invited to the back patio of the MPL to dive into some new Arts and Crafts programs at the MPL.

First up we flaunt fragrances and dip wicks in creating your own personalized Soy Candle. Join us this Friday, July 15th  from 3:00 – 4:30 through the Old Building on the Outdoor Patio. Sign-Up at the Information Desk or call 781-324-0218 today, and once more this is for grades 6 and up only.

 

(Canceled) N@ML Exploration Club – Thurs. July 14th 3:00-4:30

Youth in the 3rd Grade and Up are invited to join us on Thursday, July 14th from 3:00-4:30 PM in the Program Room of the library.

We will be exploring the ins and out of using telescopes to explore space features like stars and the surface of the moon. We will also be examining the first images send back from the James Webb Space Telescope of the deepest images of the universe ever seen by human eyes!

No Sign-Up is required but space is limited so arrive on time to take part in the latest NASA @ My Library program at the MPL.

Young Adult Perler Beads Take&Make Kits

Young Adults in the 5th grade and up are invited to the library today to pick up a take home craft bag with everything you need to start a Perler Bead hobby.

Each craft bag comes with a peg board, beads, tweezers, paper and instructions, and just require access to an iron.

No sign-up is required but there are a limited number of kits so come into the library starting today to pick up yours.

Sign Up for the Summer Reading Challenge 2022!

Adults and Young Adults (Grades 5-12) can sign up today and start logging hours read in our online tracking system!

We are tracking all readers logged hours this Summer as a whole community, so every hour that you read and track online will count towards our total!

 

 

YOUNG ADULT SUMMER READING (Grades 5-12)

Every week that you read for at least 5 or more hours (300 minutes or more) you will get to pull a prize from the prize pool behind the information desk at the library. The prizes range from free Books and Comics, to Water Bottles, Crafts, Toys and other things that will be worth coming back each week to win up to 6 weeks in a row starting Tuesday July 5th.

YOUNG ADULT TOP READERS

The top three readers over the entire 6 weeks of the Summer Reading Program (June 27th – August 8) for Young Adults will also receive a gift card for reading and logging their hours.

ADULT SUMMER READING
In addition to logging in your reading hours as you complete activities and attend programs you can accrue stickers. Once you have earned enough of the camp themed stickers return to earn your Adult Summer Reading merit badge at the Circulation Desk of the Malden Public Library.

NASA @ My Library Take & Make “Ocean Biome Dessert”

Youth and Families are invited to explore the Ocean’s Exploration with a Take & Make bag at home, sponsored by our partnership with NASA @ My Library.
 
Please call the Library at 781-324-0218 and ask for the Information Desk, or stop by the Information Desk of the Library to reserve your single craft bag per household. Sign-ups start today, and you can pick up your reserved bag starting Tuesday, July 5th, at the MPL.
 
Each bag has the dessert fixings to create a jello aquarium and explore the the Water Cycle of planet Earth. These kits are limited to one per household as each one will make 8 servings of dessert! Have fun learning and playing with your food in the comfort of your own home.

YA Movie Afternoon – June 16th @ 3PM

Young Adults in the 5th through 12th grade are invited to watch a movie at the Malden Public Library. Join us on Thursday, June 16th from 3-5 PM in the Program Room on the 2nd Floor.

The film is a high-flying action adventure movie based on the “Uncharted” video game series, and it stars Tom Holland (Spider-Man: Far From Home) and Mark Wahlberg.

Light refreshments and snacks will be provided on a first come basis along with seating so mark the 3PM start time to enjoy this feature presentation at the MPL.

Young Adult Chibitronics Program – May 19th @ 3PM

Young Adults in the 5th through 12th Grade are invited to Make circuits and art! We’ll be in the Program Room of the library on Thurs. May 19th from 3:00-5:00 PM.

We are going to be making LED art with paper circuits from Chibitronics.  First, you will design your circuits in the new app Circuit Sketcher.  Then you will make your paper circuits with Circuit Stickers and copper foil.  This program is free as you will be some of the first testers of these fun maker kits!

YA Movie Afternoon – May 5th @ 3PM

Young Adults in the 6th through 12th grade are invited to dive into the Marvel universe once more in preparation for the next movie in the series.

Join us in the Program Room on Thursday, May 5th from 3:00 – 5:00 PM to watch the 1st film based on the comic book character “Doctor Strange”.

Come watch the first film before the sequel hits theaters this weekend, and get caught up on all things Strange.

Seating is limited and light refreshments and snacks will be available.
