Firefighter Story Time

Visit the library on Thursday, May 17th at 10:30 a.m. for a Firefighter Story Time.  Meet Firefighter Rick Menard, listen to a story, and learn about fire safety and what firefighters do.  Guest reader Ted Louis-Jacques of Malden Rising Leaders will also be sharing a book.  Ages 3 and up.

Join us for Family Movie Night on Wednesday, May 23, 2018, from 6:00-8:30pm. We will be showing a recent movie based on the Marvel Comics character, Black Panther. This Ryan Coogler directed film stars Chadwick Boseman, Michael B. Jordan, Lupita Nyong’o, Daniel Kaluuya, Sterling K. Brown, Angela Bassett, and Forest Whitaker.

Celebrate Haitian Heritage Month on May 3

Everyday Scams and Identity Theft: How to Avoid Being a Victim

On Thursday, April 26, at 6:30 p.m. Tim Depin, Coordinator of Consumer Advocacy & Response Division, Office of the Massachusetts Attorney General will offer a talk on ”Everyday Scams and Identity Theft: How to Avoid Being a Victim.”  This is a free workshop that will cover what is identity theft and how to avoid or detect a variety of different mail, phone, and online scams.  All are invited to attend.  Light refreshments will be provided.  The Malden Public Library is located at 36 Salem Street, Malden, MA; 781-324-0218.

YA Gaming Afternoon – April 19th

Young Adults in the 6th through 12th Grade are invited to relax, hang out and snack at our YA Gaming Party in the Maccario Room on April 19th from 3:00 – 4:30. We will have video game and board game, along with some pizza and snacks. Enjoy some Smash Bros and roll some dice as we take some time away from the March weather and enjoy the Malden Public Library.

Malden Reads Book Discussion & Skype Chat with Charlottesville

Join us on Wednesday, April 11th from 6:30-8:30 at the Malden Public Library for a Skype discussion with the organizer of Cville One Book, the community reading program for Charlottesville, VA, where “The Hate U Give” has been selected to help #flipthescript on the city’s recent history. Then join special guest Mayor Gary Christenson for a book discussion! All who have read the book are welcome to attend. Poetry Reading with David Surette—Monday, April 9th 7PM

Join us on Monday, April 9th at 7pm to hear Malden-native David Surette read from his new collection of poetry, Malden.

He is the author of five other collections: Wicked Hard, The Immaculate Conception Mothers’ Club, Young Gentlemen’s School, Easy to Keep, Hard to Keep In and Stable which was named an Honor Book at the 2016 Massachusetts Book Awards. His poems have been recently featured in 3 Nations Anthology: Native, Canadian & New England Writers. He teaches and coaches varsity hockey at East Bridgewater Junior High School. He lives on Cape Cod.
