NASA @ My Library Take-Home Art Craft

Youth and Young Adults that have signed up for our Summer Reading Program are welcome to the library today, Monday August 5th to pick up a NASA @ My Library take home art bag! The August theme for NASA’s Science Place for creating original artwork is about the ASTHROS mission to Antarctica, and you can find out more about it here.

The craft kit includes a small paint brush, watercolors, canvas and eraser, as well as some fun bookmarks, postcards and a sticker from NASA. Paint your masterpiece and submit it to the Science Place website to have your original art featured on the website here.

These take home arts kits are limited to one bag per household, for only 3rd graders through 12th graders only, and you must be signed up for the Summer Reading program in order to take a bag home with you. No other sign-up is required and the kits are first come first serve starting today, so stop by the library when you have a chance and blast off into space.

Pumpernickel Puppets Performance!

Pumpernickel Puppets will be performing Monday, August 5th, 3-3:45pm in the Maccario Room! This free performance will include “Three Billy Goats Gruff,” and “The Lion and the Mouse,” as well as a demonstration of how puppets work. Recommended for children ages 3 and up, and no registration required. This program is generously funded by Preotle, Lane & Associates, Ltd.

Young Adult Ocean Slime Craft – Thurs. Aug 15th @ 3PM

Young Adults in the 6th through 12th grade are invited to the Malden Public Library on Thursday, August 15th from 3:00-4:30 PM to make their very own Oceanic themed slime.

Arthropod Petting Zoo

Future entomologists, get ready to bug out at the Arthropod Petting Zoo, hosted by Professor Bugman! Come learn how these amazingly diverse animals have adapted to survive and thrive in a bug-eat-bug world. This Thursday, Aug. 1, 3-4pm in the Maccario Room! (Recommended for ages 4-11 years old, no registration necessary.)

Rockabye Beats with Shon Gordon – Tuesday, July 23, 10:30 a.m.

Sing, dance, and get a little loco! Rockabye Beats is more than just an entertaining music program for young children—it’s a place where friends are made and families grow closer by creating music together! Join us at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, July 23, for some musical fun as Berklee-graduate Shon Gordon plays his guitar while subliminally teaching basic Spanish vocabulary. Appropriate for ages 2-6+.

This program, presented in coordination with the North Suburban Child & Family Resource Network, is supported by a grant from the Malden Cultural Council, a local agency supported by the Mass Cultural Council, a state agency.

Recycled Art Projects with Bobby Brown

Awesome craft program alert! In keeping with our summer theme of conservation, we are having a very special craft program. Artist Bobby Brown will teach kids ages 7-11 how to make art with recycled objects. This program will be held Thursday, July 25th from 2-4pm, in the program room on the second floor. Space will be limited to be sure to show up early!

Young Adult Tie-Dye Shirt Day – July 19th @ 2PM

Young Adults in the 6th through 12th grade can sign up to make your own Tie-Dye on the lawn of the Malden Public Library. Join us on Friday, July 19th from 2-4 PM to make your own t-shirt creation.

Spanish-English Storytelling: The Song of the Chimiria – Wed., July 10, 6:30pm

Join us on Wednesday evening, July 10, for a cultural and literary adventure! Presented in both English and Spanish, this beautiful Guatemalan folktale tells the story of the “chirimia”, whose music is sweeter even that of the birds. The protagonists are a Mayan princess and a young man whose love for he sends him on a quest for the purest song in the woods.   This fun program features storytelling, a creative activity, and a more dynamic activity.  Recommended for ages 5 and up.

Bonaparté’s Family Magic Concert: Tuesday, July 16, 3pm

Don’t miss this fabulous show on Tuesday, July 16, at 3pm! The Family Magic Concert is a high energy, interactive funfest, full of amazing magic and hilarious comedy as well as the dramatic appearance of ‘Snow,’ a beautiful, fluttering white dove and ‘Fluffy,’ an adorable fuzzy bunny.
