The Malden Historical Society, in conjunction with the Malden Public Library, presents “Mother Russia: An Exhibition of Icons and Artifacts from Czarist Russia,” on view in the Library’s lower gallery August 14 through September 21. The exhibit will feature some 70 pieces from a private collection, including painted icons, brass and bronze icons, and other small religious and secular items dating from the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries.
The public is invited to an opening reception at 6:00 pm on Tuesday August 14. The evening will feature remarks by Malden Historical Society member Joseph Cesario, who will discuss Russian icons and their uses and introduce some of the exhibited pieces. Light refreshments will be served.
After the opening, visitors can view the exhibit on Mondays 6-8 pm, Wednesdays 2-4 pm, and Fridays 11-2 pm until it closes September 21. The exhibit and reception are free and open to all.
