Malden Reads Movie Night: Wed., March 6th: 6:00-8:00pm

Join us on Wednesday, March 6, 2019 at 6:00-8:00pm at the Malden Public Library’s Malden Reads film screening for the 2019 book selection, The Tea Girl of Hummingbird Lane, by Lisa See.  We will be showing a movie about The King of Masks.

Wang is an aging street performer in 1930s China who is a master of bian lian, the ancient Chinese dramatic art of rapid “face-changing.” Saddened by not having a male heir or apprentice to pass down the technique, Wang goes to an orphanage to adopt a young boy.  The New York Times writes, “the movie is foremost about kindness…” and the San Francisco Chronicle writes, it’s “a work of rare grace and humor.  Highly recommended!”  Rotten Tomatoes gives the film an 89% approval rating.

Co-sponsored by the Chinese Culture Connection. A discussion of this year’s Malden Reads book selection, The Tea Girl of Hummingbird Lane, will follow the movie.  Movie times are approximate.  This film is free and open to the public and is accessible.  Please call the Malden Public Library at 781-324-0218 for more information.  Not Rated (101 min.)
