Boston Conservatory alum’s Cassandre McKinley grew up in the Boston area. She is a jazz vocalist and has “developed a sound and style that is so unique, there’s no comparisons”. Boston Globe/ Sidekick Cover August 2007 says, “There’s a music style called jazzsoul (we made it up) and our anointed queen is Boston native Cassandre McKinley”.

Auto repair and home improvement databases now available!

Need to repair your car or want to make some home improvements? Check out these new databases at the Malden Public Library to get you started on your projects! The Auto Repair Reference Center and the Home Improvement Reference Center are now available for use at the library or use your Malden Library card to use it wherever you have internet access.

The Auto Repair Reference Center contains information on most major manufacturers of domestic and imported vehicles, with repair information for most vintage makes starting as far back as 1945. Database content includes more than 31,660 vehicles covered from 1945 to present; over 205,000 drawings and step-by-step photographs; and much more. All of the content in Auto Repair Reference Center has been created by ASE certified technicians.

Home Improvement Reference Center™ is the definitive online tool for home improvement assistance, including: maintenance, remodeling, electrical work, plumbing, wood projects, outdoor improvements, decorating home & garden, etc. This comprehensive resource contains 26 major reference works in full text with more than 10,000 images .

In honor of Children’s Book Week, Scott Magoon will visit the Children’s Room of the Malden Public Library to read from his books, talk about his work, and give a drawing demonstration. Scott Magoon has illustrated Ugly Fish, The Luck of the Loch Ness Monster, and Rabbit & Squirrel and has written and illustrated Hugo & Miles in I’ve Painted Everything! Most appropriate for children ages 6 and up.

Chinese Dough Sculpture Workshop

Chinese Dough Sculpture ( 捏 麵 ) is a kind of Chinese folk art. Come and learn how a few colored pieces of dough are turned into expressive and lively figure by your own hands. And you can gobble it up!!

All materials will be provided free of charge on a first come, first served basis. Space limited to 20. Participants must be ages 12 and up.
