The Friends of the Malden Public Library and M&M Liquors present the sixth annual Wine Tasting to benefit the Library.

Wednesday, April 30, 2008 in the Maccario Room at 7:00p.m.
The workshop includes:
- the history on the usage of African headdress
in various African countries and the Caribbean
-textile recommendations for creating African
wraps
-an art of African Head Wrap demonstration by Imani
Mcfarlane- Fashion Designer, Fabric Consultant,
and Seamstress of House Of Tafari Collection
- handouts of step by step instruction for wrapping African textiles
The workshop is free and handicapped accessible.

Gale Virtual Reference Library is a database of 20+ full-text reference books covering the arts, biography, business, environment, history, literature, medicine, multicultural studies, geography, and science. These reference materials once were accessible only in the library, but now they are available 24/7 at your fingertips from the Malden Public Library and any location with a valid Malden Public Library card.

Since this database provides sources for multidisciplinary research, you can search by any keyword for your research project and get full-text articles and images immediately

Teen Poetry Writing Workshop - Thursday, 4/24 (no school!)

Like to write poems or songs? Want to improve your creative writing skills?

Join us in the Program Room for a poetry writing workshop with Beth Gallaway on Thursday, April 24 (no school!).

  • Grades 5-8 will be meeting from 2-3:30pm.
  • Grades 9-12 will be meeting from 3:30-5pm.
  • This activity is supported by the Institute of Museum and Library Services under the provisions of the Library Services and Technology Act as administered by the state of Massachusetts.

Chinese Knotting Workshop

Chinese knotting (中國结) is an ancient handicraft arts that uses rope or cords to make a series of knots. The intricately woven knots embellished with jade or beads have been used in jewelry making and home decoration.


All materials will be provided free of charge on a first come, first served basis. Space limited to 20. Participants must be ages 12 and up.

Date: April 26th, Saturday

Time: 2:30–3:30 pm

Location: Mccario Room at Malden Public Library

Children’s Programs for School Vacation Week

Looking for activities for kids this week? There are lots of fun programs at the Malden Public Library! All programs are FREE and don’t require registration. Call the Children’s Room for more information: 781-388-0803. (Note: We will be closed on Monday.)

Tuesday, April 22, at 2:30 p.m.: Musical Storytime with Cello–All ages.
Wednesday, April 23, at 3:00 p.m.: Kids Dance Party–All ages.
Thursday, April 24, at 3:00 p.m.: Matisse Paper-Collage Craft–For 6 & up.
Friday, April 25, at 3:00 p.m.: Caribbean for Kids–All ages.
Children can learn about and dance to fun music on the steel pan drum! This program is funded by the Malden Cultural Council, a local agency, which is supported by the Massachusetts Cultural Council, a state agency.
Saturday, April 26, from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m.: Spring Craft Time–For 3 & up.

Biography Resource Center (BRC) is a database filled with biographical information on more than 340,000 people from scholarly and popular sources. BRC provides access to more than 538,000 full text articles from nearly 300 magazines.
